You may want to save money and look for a job on your own. There are many websites that allow families to look for a nanny, too many to mention them here. If you are good at search, you will eventually find some of them.
There is, however, more to it than finding a family that wants to hire you. You may like the family, the family may love you, and yet, the results could be disappointing. There are too many other factors that have to be considered when looking for a job and accepting an offer.
You must have direct experience or education relevant to the offered job. It is not enough that you babysat your niece or raised your children. You have to have the right qualifications for the particular job that you were offered. Even if the family believes you are the right one, the visa office may be of a different opinion.
The employer must qualify too – they have to be able to pay your salary, for example. They should know what the minimum wage in their province is. They should be familiar with the labour standards of the province they live in.
Last but not least – they must be aware of your rights and duties as a live-in caregiver. And so should you. Without this knowledge, your employment may be not what you are dreaming about and you could be disappointed and discouraged.
There are many agencies that are reputable and reliable – you would have a better chance using their services and rely on their expertise. It is your life and your future, think hard before you make a decision without doing a due diligence.
