The Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC) regulates the conduct of immigration consultants who are its members to ensure competent and ethical treatment of consumers who hire its members to provide immigration consulting services.
The Society grants memberships to only those individuals who have demonstrated their knowledge and ability to advise, consult and represent people who wish to seek Canadian immigration, have passed the Society's Knowledge and Ethics Test and have demonstrated their good character.
No company may be a member of CSIC. Only an individual can apply for membership. Katarina Onuschak, the owner of T&CS Canada is a member of CSIC. As is the case with all Immigration consultant companies (as of April 13, 2004), all paperwork submitted to the Government of Canada must be reviewed and signed by a member of CSIC. In the case of T&CS Canada Inc., Mrs. Onuschak (Member # M041613) has that authority.
Recent Legislation passed by the Government of Canada, (amendment to Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations) has identified members of the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants as one of the groups of professionals authorized to consult, advise and represent individuals for a fee with their Immigration and refugee matters.
The Society's Rules of Professional Conduct set out the rules of professional and ethical conduct members have to abide by. Members failing to meet these obligations are subject to the Society's Complaints and Disciplinary Process.
The Society's By-laws outline its functions, corporate governance as well as membership requirements.
The Society's Board of Directors sets up and oversees policies to ensure CSIC's mandate of Consumer protection is met. The initial Board consists of nine individuals who come from diverse professional and ethnic backgrounds but all of whom share the common goal of ensuring CSIC will meet its goal of regulating its members and ensuring their professional and ethical conduct.
