Important information for anyone considering immigration to Canada under the category of Skilled worker or provincial nomination program.
Once you decide that you meet the criteria of some of the immigration programs, there are three more conditions that you and your family must fulfill, besides qualifying in the point system:
Reasonably good health - every member of your family will have to undergo a medical examination (the extent of the examination will depend on the age of your family members). Contagious diseases and medical conditions that may require extensive medical care may be a reason for refusal of your application.
Clean police record - no exceptions. You will have to submit police clearance from all countries where you or a member of your family older than 18 lived for more than 6 months.
Sufficient financial means - to allow you and your family to comfortably settle in Canada and look for meaningful employment. New immigrants, or provincial nominees, who were accepted to Canada as independent immigrants, cannot apply for social assistance during the first 6 months after their arrival. According to the new regulations, the amount you will need to have before you could be granted permanent residence equals 50% of the LICO (Low Income Cut Off) table used for sponsors in Canada.
You do not have to have this amount in cash when you start the process. For immigration purposes, a proof of property ownership will be satisfactory, providing that you can sell the property if necessary. However, at the time of your interview, you should have the required funds available. Not complying with this condition may result in refusal of your application.
